Eliasson-this is tomorrow-
I'd like to say good bye to this year with aν euphemism to one of my favorite artists Olafur Eliasson and two of his latest works in 2010.
Multiple shadow house
Tanya Bonakdar Gallery
Focusing on movement, color, and light - and the interplay between the three phenomena - the exhibition involves the viewer in a collaborative creative process. Throughout his career, Eliasson has challenged the notion of the artwork as a static object, instead suggesting that the meaning and generative potential of each work lies in the exchange between the piece and the viewer. It is the visitor's experience, his or her subjective perception and mediation of the work that activates it; in turn Eliasson's installations, public projects, photographs and paintings prompt a new awareness in the visitor of his or her own methods of interpreting the world.
The work is a situation experienced as it is created. The user negotiates and constructs his or her own surroundings, and the architecture is animated by the visitor.
Mikroskop
2010Innen Stadt Außen
Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, 2010
“Innen Stadt Aussen” (inside city outside) is the title of the solo exhibition that Berlin dedicated to Olafur Eliasson. Daniel Birnbaum, curator, friend of the artist and director of last Venice Biennale edition, organised the exhibition that plays on the perception of space and on a common, relational idea of artistic operation. Mirrors constituting the spokes of a bicycle wheel or positioned on a small van travelling in town give back an urban landscape through a sense of bewilderment, as an opening to the complexity of endless folds that reality, and a look on it, offer.

mobile bench by vincent wittenberg and guy königstein
For their project entitled 'streeeeeet', the duo came up with a series of interventions realized in bat-yam, israel,
one observation they made of the residents' habits was use of private chairs in public spaces.
although the arcades in front of the shops might be publicly used within the street, the area officially belongs
to the shops. every morning the shop keepers place a chair in front of their stores and use it throughout the day.

IDSA Design of the decade
IDSA announced the design of the decade awards. Here are my favourite ones!
The first decade of the 21st century has been frequently accused of lacking coherence. Ironically, coherence emerged as one of the prevailing themes of some of the decade’s most important design work. Target’s Clear Rx bottles—hailed by IDSA’s esteemed jury as the standout Design of the Decade—exists very explicitly to deliver a clearer, more intelligible and more logical healthcare experience.
The 2010 Design of the Decade stories feature a combination of brave thinking and progressive action. Winners such as Target’s ClearRx, Nike Considered Footwear and Tata Swach® reflect the smarter contributions design is making to business and society.

The Venus razor improves the experience of one of life’s never ending chores: shaving. Its design makes the whole process of shaving better, faster, safer and simpler—for her, rather than him. Unlike men, women shave while standing in a wet, slippery shower environment. They often balance on one leg and must bend and twist to see and reach where they want to shave. And a modern razor blade is the sharpest object that the average person typically encounters—and they drag it over their skin.
As today’s highly mobile knowledge workers spend more time than ever in a seated posture using electronic devices like PCs, laptops and smart phones, the need to mitigate the effects of sitting increases. Physiologically the human body is not made for sitting; back pain is among the top-five ailments effecting modern workers.
Nike Considered Footwear is a sustainable line of shoes that has also served as a template for ecologically sensitive design principles. In 2006, Nike adopted the Considered product ethos—create products that are made with less toxins, less waste, more environmentally friendly materials and sustainable product innovation—and later created a sustainability index to measure the level of ecologically sensitive design and manufacturing in all new products.
The Kindle wireless portable reading device is the first physical manifestation of the Amazon.com brand. It is a continuous narrative that originates from the Amazon.com bookstore and evolves into a seamless reading experience. From the design brief to fulfillment centers, the only point of contact Amazon doesn’t control in the Kindle experience is the friendly UPS driver.
The Jawbone line of Bluetooth headsets solves a ubiquitous problem: the ability to talk on a mobile phone in a loud environment while hearing—and being heard—clearly. Jawbone uses Noise Assassin technology that virtually eliminates background noise, making calls clearer. It continuously adapts to the user’s changing environment while also separating the speaker’s voice from other ambient noise, optimizing both incoming and outgoing sound. An ergonomic and clean design simplifies and enhances the complete experience.

The perfect letter to Santa
Dear Santa Claus,
This year, I have been a very passive aggressive little advertising tampon. I have sometimes cheated, and I have often helped my mommy’s “special friend” with their colostomy bag. And I always say thank you, which makes me polite, and so I deserve lots of love this year!
Please bring all this stuff for me and the people in my life: For my mommy, please bring Valium. For my daddy, please bring a new money clip. For my little brother, please bring Barbie. For my hampster, please bring breath mints. Oh – and for my cleaning lady, please bring some worthless tchotchkes.
Now about me! Please bring me all of the Anna Nicole Smith toilet paper, and front row tickets to Mary-Kate and Ashley – plus backstage passes so I can get airborne Chlamydia! Oh, and please don’t forget to bring my amputee Afghan orphan. But if you can’t, just remember that more than anything Santa, what I really really want is just $100,000,000!
Anyway, I hope you like the cognac I left out for you.
Breathlessly,
markela Bg
PS: Please say hello to Ralph, the heartless Elfin slavemaster.
PPS: Oh yeah, and remember greek goverment? She has been a really perverted dork all year long and doesn’t deserve any Christmas presents. So please don’t forget to put ebola in their stocking. Thanks!
