Installed in the courtyard of a hotel in Lyon, the 25-metre-long Bourrasque sculpture was completed for the city’s annual Festival of Lights.
Each sheet was the same size as a sheet of A3 paper and was moulded into shape by hand

A ream of paper scatters in a gust of wind, soaring high into the black winter night, every sheet glowing bright, against a backdrop of the most exquisite 17th century architecture…

The site is the grand courtyard of Lyon’s Hotel de Ville, and the occasion is the city’s annual Festival of Light, a winter tradition drawing thousands of visitors to its festive attractions.

In his installation “Bourrasque”, designer Paul Cocksedge has combined his interest in the nature and morphology of paper with a subject that has long been an important element of his design work: light…

In both scale and technique, this is an ambitious project. “Bourrasque”, measures 25 metres in length and reaches over 15 metres at its highest point. The 200 A3-sized sheets are made from electroluminescent (EL) material, a technology which has recently advanced rapidly to produce a range of sophisticated colour temperatures, in thin and extremely flexible sheets. Each of these double-sided sheets has been individually moulded by hand in London, and then assembled on site in a structure of extraordinary finesse and detail barely visible to the human eye.

The drawing is composed entirely out of 3.200.000 ink dots. The time, effort, commitment to the piece shows the importance of the father in the artist's life and the numeration of each dots shows the energy invested in the piece. By using Stippling or pointillism technique, it gives the piece a rich texture and great granulation.

Korean architect Eun Young Yi’s proposal was selected in 1999 from 235 competition entries as the plan for the new central library of the City of Stuttgart.
Yi has created a monolithic cube with two floors underground and nine above. Essentially all of the building, both inside and out is white. The main library floors circle an open-plan with the levels connected by open staircases. Books line the outer walls of each floor.
As a cool nod to the fact that the building is a storehouse of words, the word “library” is installed in four languages on the outside walls. On the North wall in German (the local language), West in English (lingua franca), South in Arabic (the language of ancient knowledge and of Stuttgart’s sister city, Cairo) and East in Korean (Yi’s native language)

Is an ongoing series of posters designed by graduates for the purpose of passing on advice and inspiration to first year students. An advice poster is given as a welcoming gift to every student starting a course at participating Universities when they enroll.

Everyone has a piece of advice they wish they had known earlier, but often don’t have the chance to pass that advice on to where it can make a difference.

Advice is subjective and above all, it is the attempt at the exchange that matters most. But, by passing on advice in a creative way, it is possible to create something that lasts, that people will want to live with and which may let the advice sink in slowly and help out later on.

Bags Mohajer
… is a project of mainly Afghan underaged refugees. Many of them worked in Iran as tailors earning money to enable them to travel to Greece. In „Villa Azadi“ the asylum seekers make bags out of clothes which are donated to the camp. 99% of the kids are boys therefore most of the bags made are from women’s clothes. Through their tenacious creativity they transform these discarded garments into a variety of bags. Additionally, they use material from deflated and discarded rubber dinghy boats from the beaches in Lesvos. A great majority of these dinghy boats were used by the refugees themselves when they travelled through adverse conditions from Turkey to Greece. The dinghy boats were mostly overloaded and in poor condition thus forcing the immigrants to risk their lives to arrive in Greece. On top of these problems, a lot of dinghy boats were destroyed by Frontex (the European Border Agency) or by the refugees themselves on arrival in Greece, so Frontex wouldn’t be able to send them straight back. From the dinghy boats they create laptop bags, wallets, sports bags and other bag varieties. The refugees also recycle plastic clips from the life jackets they used on their journey to Greece.
This project is not supported by any organisation, therefore the tailors rely on donations.

For her graduation project at central st martin's, japanese designer maiko takeda created the 'cinematography' collection. each metal accessory is covered in hand-drilled holes of various sizes that cast photograph-like shadows onto the wearers skin.

Well the wallpaper issue this month is very interesting!And the Isolation Unit designers are not convincing me that this disposable cup/dish kit is easy to think design and make!
Their concept was to to make a product that can be produced by hand by anyone and still have a perfect look.Each itam can be made by A4 sheet of foodgrade coated paper, a paper cutter, starch glue and latex, says Glaetti.
There is a second version, a DIY pre cut sheets with an adhesive at the joints that you dampen, fold and join.

I was browsing this months 'wallpaper' mag the handmade edition and I was impressed from this simple super functional and intelligent table from the young designer Martha Schwindling.

She used just wood and rubber.The circular mirror lined groove carved into the table,is angled to reflect the sitter's face and neck and is designed to have personal items stored behind it. The mechanism in it's frame makes the mirror stay constant when it moves.

The forest, and specifically the oak tree, has long been associated with a sense of German national identity and Heimat, from the dense woods in early German Renaissance paintings to the ubiquitous forest in tales of the Brothers Grimm and the shadowy woodland and lone oak in the allegorical paintings of the German Romantics.It's like the olive branch for the Greeks.
There is something tragicomic about Henneken’s paintings and certainly something of the Grotesque in their interleaving of ‘high’ and ‘low’ cultures and framing of large, resonant questions about the nature of reality in humorous, sometimes almost ridiculous, terms.

"Tessa's miniscule sculptures reinvigorate a belief in fairies: not the sweet Tinkerbell image in popular conscience, but a biological, entomological, macabre species translating pastoral fable into nightmarish lore. I referred to James Turrell some time ago in one of my posts but this guy is amazing and his work fascinated me.It is an opportunity now with his new exhibition to mention him again!

James Turrell light and colour installations in Sweden.  
One of the worldʼs greatest artists within light, colour and space, James Turrell, has constructed a number of new works. They are together with works from earlier periods exhibited under the title THE LIGHT INSIDE in Järna, south of Stockholm. The show has opened May 15 and will be open daily from 10:00 -18:00 untill october 2 nd.

Case-study Jaarbeuparking garage in Utrecht.
The assignment was first to take a closer look and analyze the parking garage on the basis of one example, the
Jaarbeursplein in Utrecht. Secondly to develop spatial strategies for filling the socio cultural lack of these existing building types.
My analysis part was based on flexibility(The parking garage as universal flexible column system can be seen as anuniversal building in modern cities. How flexible is the system?)
The flexibility analysis was completed in collaboration with Sofia Galaraga.

After the analysis the decision was to crate a game.A treasure hunting game which the only tools you need is a UV pen to write the clues on any possible surfaces, a map of the garage and a UV light torch to detect the hidden clues.

Artists Stage an Oily Protest in the Tate Britain

Why? The unsanctioned performance piece, called "Human Cost," was a protest by the group Liberate Tate, which has been trying to get Tate to end its relationship with BP—a relationship which basically consists of BP buying good publicity by giving the museum money and then putting its logo everywhere. As Terry Taylor, a member of Liberate Tate, said, "Oil companies like BP are responsible for environmental and social controversy all over the world, and we can’t let their sponsorship of institutions like Tate detract from that fact."

Here's the irony, though: Liberate Tate was actually founded during a 2010 workshop on art and activism sponsored by the Tate. During the workshop, the group says, the Tate tried to prevent participants from doing anything that would embarrass the museum's sponsors. Suffice it to say, that kind of backfired.
Is this the most effective way to help communities damaged by oil extraction? Probably not. But art is meant to inspire discussion and here we are.

For many years, experimental films and art films were almost exclusively screened in museums and at film festivals. Instant Cinema aims to compensate for half a century of under-exposure of film/video and computer art by exhibiting some of the great classics of recent history, side by side with the work of today’s most talented media artists.

Some of the short movies(briefly):
Cadavre Exquis

Through interviews and fragments, Cadavre exquis introduces five experimental filmmakers, thereby showing the different aspects of experimental cinema in the Netherlands. Sometimes it literally involves experiments. One of the makers, Gerard Holthuis, puts someone in a swimming pool with a wave generator and drenches her in water until her resistance breaks. That is the moment he wants to capture. Lonnie van Brummelens had to say goodbye to an plaster statue she had used in an earlier film. In extracts, we see how she drags the statue along behind her until it has completely decayed. Cadavre exquis is not an isolated project: the film was released in January, along with the book mm2 - Experimenteal Film in the Netherlands since 1960. Both works want to draw attention to the Dutch avant garde.

I Sprout

A woman returns to her parental home that she left when she was six. The cold winter turns to a summer filled with scent and memories; memories of a bicycle crash, a tree blown down and a crawl through the surrounding undergrowth. Inside the house everything is quiet and familiar - until someone starts screaming in terror.

Sally

Rolling marbles go where they will. Captured in a space in which gravity isn’t normal, the marbles roll along the walls and ceiling. Sally was commissioned by Cut-n-Paste for the project Grote Kunst voor Kleine Mensen [Big Art for Small People], October 2005.

Al Moran and Aaron Bondaroff create a blindingly brilliant pop-up retail space within Italian brand Cappellini’s Wooster Street flagship store. Nodding to the graphic elements of their fixed store, OHWOW’s festive pop-up alludes to wrapped presents with it’s bold cellophane wrapping almost presenting the store itself as one super-sized gift.

Martin was approached by Johan Lindeberg directly who gave him the freedom to come up with concepts he felt would reflect the culture of the BLK DNM brand.
Over dinner in Copenhagen, the two discussed life, breakups and student revolts, and Martin subsequently relocated to New York to write his scripts, cast and shoot.

The films were screened on 15th February, wowing audiences at New York’s Fashion Week.

The 72-storey building in the London Bridge Quarter will contain premium office space, a world-class hotel, luxury residences, a spa, restaurants & cafes, retail space and a 15-storey public viewing gallery. Access to public transportation via bus line, train and underground will be directly on site.

Stardust's Slamdunk Animation for adidas

Stardust Los Angeles was tapped by 180 LA to give its latest brand campaign for adidas Basketball a retro urban, illustrative twist. Directed by Stardust's Jake Banks, the two spots star Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose and Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and take a stylized approach that highlights their unique personalities while touting the players' sneaks - the adiZero Rose and The Beast. Stardust handled all animation, including traditional cel animation overlaid on top of live-action footage, and edited and finished the campaign, which broke January and February in China, France and Spain.

Under Banks' direction, Stardust treated virtually every frame, hand-tracing and rotoscoping the material, building '2 ½-D' environments, then placing cel animation into the environments. Stardust used Adobe After Effects for compositing, Apple Final Cut Pro for editing, Autodesk Maya for 3D modeling and animation and handled clean-up in Autodesk Flame.

Location: Migliarino, Ferrara, Italy
an old hemp factory into a new city center for the town of Migliarino, the project gains a youth hostel out of a 510 m2 portion of the building. The site position is barycentric to the touristic circuits which take place during the summer, thanks to the proximity of the Po River Delta Natural Park, but the project has to count on a reduced regional funding, 270.000 € including the furniture, and a doubtful management profitability. Thus the management aspects, both with the energetic and economic saving, are the principal matters.

While the reception and the facilities are located on the ground floor, the second level presents a single big space with all the windows on just one side. Four rooms for 2-3 persons each, bathrooms and a staircase are disposed on two levels on the other side.

I'd like to say good bye to this year with aν euphemism to one of my favorite artists Olafur Eliasson and two of his latest works in 2010.

Focusing on movement, color, and light - and the interplay between the three phenomena - the exhibition involves the viewer in a collaborative creative process. Throughout his career, Eliasson has challenged the notion of the artwork as a static object, instead suggesting that the meaning and generative potential of each work lies in the exchange between the piece and the viewer. It is the visitor's experience, his or her subjective perception and mediation of the work that activates it; in turn Eliasson's installations, public projects, photographs and paintings prompt a new awareness in the visitor of his or her own methods of interpreting the world.
The work is a situation experienced as it is created. The user negotiates and constructs his or her own surroundings, and the architecture is animated by the visitor.

“Innen Stadt Aussen” (inside city outside) is the title of the solo exhibition that Berlin dedicated to Olafur Eliasson. Daniel Birnbaum, curator, friend of the artist and director of last Venice Biennale edition, organised the exhibition that plays on the perception of space and on a common, relational idea of artistic operation. Mirrors constituting the spokes of a bicycle wheel or positioned on a small van travelling in town give back an urban landscape through a sense of bewilderment, as an opening to the complexity of endless folds that reality, and a look on it, offer.

one observation they made of the residents' habits was use of private chairs in public spaces.
although the arcades in front of the shops might be publicly used within the street, the area officially belongs
to the shops. every morning the shop keepers place a chair in front of their stores and use it throughout the day.

The first decade of the 21st century has been frequently accused of lacking coherence. Ironically, coherence emerged as one of the prevailing themes of some of the decade’s most important design work. Target’s Clear Rx bottles—hailed by IDSA’s esteemed jury as the standout Design of the Decade—exists very explicitly to deliver a clearer, more intelligible and more logical healthcare experience.

The Venus razor improves the experience of one of life’s never ending chores: shaving. Its design makes the whole process of shaving better, faster, safer and simpler—for her, rather than him. Unlike men, women shave while standing in a wet, slippery shower environment. They often balance on one leg and must bend and twist to see and reach where they want to shave. And a modern razor blade is the sharpest object that the average person typically encounters—and they drag it over their skin.
As today’s highly mobile knowledge workers spend more time than ever in a seated posture using electronic devices like PCs, laptops and smart phones, the need to mitigate the effects of sitting increases.
